Snorkeling in Trincomalee and Pigeon Island

A short boat ride off the beach, join the marine life of Pigeon Island, famous for snorkeling and sea bathing activities, with a visit to the Marine Park which was closed for decades. Enjoy your time in the wilderness, sun and sea bathing!


Hop on board an 18-foot fiber-glass motor boat to be whisked away to an awaiting land of paradise. A 30-min boat ride will take you to an Island of magical proportions surrounded by pure white sand, sea shells and a large rock on which pigeons roost. The beaches resemble a bit of heaven while it offers ideal conditions for snorkelers. It’s not the journey of travelling to Pigeon Island that is hard, but leaving this delightful location that is often a contemplated decision. Pigeon Island National Park is a coral reef that harbors many vertebrates and invertebrates.


The park supports over 100 species of coral and 300 coral reef fishes recorded around the Trincomalee area. The location is also great to observe the juvenile and adult Black tip reef shark as well as a variety of turtles such as the Hawksbill turtle, Green turtle and Olive Ridley. The island is also an important breeding ground for the Rock Pigeon.
