Itinerary in Detail
Day 5
KANDY
After breakfast leave for Kandy. Visit a Spice Garden, Alu-vihara Buddhist Temple and a local Batik Factory on the way. You could photograph different types spice trees, plants and creepers, traditional method of making Ola-leaf books and the method of writing on them and the entire process of making batik cloths / garments at the above places. At Kandy visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, another Unesco World Heritage site. After photographing the garden in front, the Audience Hall, the Royal Palace (remains) from the road in front and the Sacred Tooth Relic proper in the central courtyard/main chamber, listen to the drum beats. Then the Island in the lake and the bathing pavilion and any other places of interest. Take the Upper Lake drive for city views, Kandy Market for fruits, vegetable and people. Evening witness a Kandyan Dance performance, better in advance to choose a suitable place for your photography.

Day 6
KANDY
Morning visit the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens created around 1750. Some of the beautiful avenues, the Orchid House, massive trees, flowering creepers and ferns are a few examples to capture. The Royal Palm Avenue with the Bullock Cart you can hire for photographs and leave for Gadaladeniya and Lankatilake Buddhist Temples dating to 14 th Century. You can visit a local furnace and workshop where brass work is done near Gadaladeniya Temple. You can also visit Embekke Devala close to Lankatilake, where woodcarving is found in all the pillars in the main open hall. More than 500 separate designs are found dating to 14 th Century. Afternoon spend the time in Kandy City and walk to the Market (This is an excellent place to photograph fruit stalls selling varieties of tropical fruits, vegetable stalls with nicely arranged or go to the open market area for vegetable sellers and the main street for payment Hawkers and for open shops selling all items) in the evening.

Day 7
NUWARA ELIYA
Morning leave for Nuwara Eliya so called “Little England” via Gampola and Ramboda. On the way you are passing Tea plantations, factories, Tea Pluckers (Ask your Guide to speak to the Kangani the supervisor and arrange few Pluckers for photographs the plucking of “two leaves and the bud” and for a close up as well, for which you have to give them a tip.) and many road side waterfalls. Stop at the Glenloch or Labookele Tea Factory to see and photograph the processing of tea. See Ramboda Falls (329 feet high) on the way. At Ramboda you will find 10 hair-pin bends and at a suitable location you can photograph 3 or 4 such bends and the road snaking up the hill with the plains below at a distance. At Nuwara Eliya see the houses similar to houses and mansions in England, same type of flowers, nevertheless fresh vegetables. Walk in the Victoria Park and the Market where you can see local fruits, vegetables and flowers kept for sale. In the evening return to hotel.

Bandu Gunaratne is a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (RPS) and anArtist-Excellence of Federation of International Photographic Art (FIAP). He is a visiting lecturer of Photography at University of Moratuwa, SriLanka and a mentor of Photography at Metropolitan Photo Hub (Canon), Photo Technica (Nikon School), Sri Lanka College of Journalists & National Photographic Art Society of Sri Lanka, Colombo. Bandu is a travel photographer who has visited 26 countries nevertheless an international award winner. He is also a Juror in international photo competitions.
